The sun set as it should but it never returned. Nobody was expecting it to leave us for good but with the subtlety of its departure, there was no panic. Even when the moon turned red, people remained reserved. They didn't adjust to their new reality so much as they merely accepted it. This new environment caused them to change. They started to trust each other less. They felt alienated from one another. They treated each other with cold indifference and, on occassion, hostility. Friendly greetings on the once-crowded sidewalk became diverted eyes on near-barren streets. Streets lit only by the neon lights of buildings and the strange red glow of the moon.
